ERCO has become the official lighting partner of Art Basel, starting with the Basel edition in June 2026. The German architectural lighting specialist will provide lighting infrastructure for the international art fair, with the system planned for use at other Art Basel shows in the future.
The lighting solution was developed with Expomobilia, Art Basel’s production partner within MCH Group. It is designed for a global fair format where booths, artworks, and exhibition layouts change frequently and require fast installation, flexible adjustment, and consistent visual quality.
The system includes modular spotlights with interchangeable optics and durable LED technology. ERCO and Expomobilia also developed a transport and logistics concept using dedicated flight cases, allowing the lighting infrastructure to be reused across multiple international fair editions.
For art fairs, lighting is a core part of presentation. It affects color perception, material appearance, spatial orientation, and how visitors experience individual works. ERCO brings long experience in museum, gallery, and cultural lighting, with a focus on precise optics, flexible light distribution, and efficient illumination.
Sustainability was also part of the project brief. The luminaires are designed for long-term use over more than 20 years and across multiple Art Basel editions. The approach aims to reduce waste by using a reusable lighting infrastructure instead of short-cycle replacement systems.
The partnership strengthens ERCO’s position in the high-end gallery and cultural lighting sector. For the wider lighting industry, it shows how major exhibition platforms are demanding solutions that combine visual quality, logistics, flexibility, energy efficiency, and long service life.
