Zumtobel Group Earns EcoVadis Platinum Rating

The Zumtobel Group has been awarded its first EcoVadis Platinum rating, marking the highest level of recognition from the global sustainability assessment platform. The achievement places the Austria-based lighting manufacturer among the top 1% of more than 150,000 companies evaluated worldwide for environmental, social, ethical, and procurement performance.

The company has participated in EcoVadis assessments since 2016, steadily improving its performance over the years by progressing from Silver to Gold before reaching Platinum. The latest result reflects continued advances in sustainability management, transparent reporting, and measurable progress across its global operations.

EcoVadis evaluates organizations across four key areas: environmental impact, labor and human rights, ethics, and sustainable procurement. The assessment is based on internationally recognized standards, including the United Nations Global Compact, the Global Reporting Initiative (GRI), and ISO 26000, providing customers and business partners with an independent benchmark of corporate sustainability performance.

According to Zumtobel Group CEO Alfred Felder, the Platinum rating reflects the company’s long-term commitment to integrating sustainability into every aspect of its business rather than treating it as a standalone initiative. He noted that the recognition was made possible through the collective efforts of employees and the consistent implementation of the company’s sustainability strategy.

The group’s sustainability roadmap is centered on three strategic pillars: achieving Net Zero emissions, advancing a Circular Economy, and strengthening its role as a “Partner of Choice” for customers and stakeholders. These initiatives include reducing greenhouse gas emissions, improving resource efficiency, increasing product circularity, and promoting responsible sourcing throughout the supply chain.

Zumtobel also emphasized the importance of transparent sustainability reporting. The company reports its progress under the European Sustainability Reporting Standards (ESRS), allowing investors, customers, and partners to monitor measurable performance against its environmental and social objectives.

For the lighting industry, the recognition highlights the growing importance of sustainability as a competitive factor. Manufacturers are increasingly expected to demonstrate not only energy-efficient products but also responsible manufacturing practices, ethical supply chains, and measurable climate commitments. Independent ratings such as EcoVadis have become an important reference point for customers, governments, and project developers when selecting long-term technology partners.
